Eric Dier’s popularity among Tottenham Hotspur fans seems to be waning this season, and that was evident following Thursday night’s Europa League exit.
The England international put in a disappointing performance in the 2-2 draw with Gent, who won the last-32 tie 3-2 on aggregate.
He was at fault for the 82nd-minute goal that put the Belgian club through to the next phase of the competition.
Kalifa Coulibaly broke into the danger area and as he tried to cut the ball back, it was blocked by Dier.

Unfortunately for the 23-year-old he was unable to control it properly and the ball bounced off his chest and into the path of goalscorer Jeremy Perbet.
Dier became a first-team regular at Spurs for his performances as a defensive midfielder, and he went on to earn a spot in the England team for last summer’s European Championships.
At times this season Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has deployed Dier at centre-back, but there is where he has struggled, and football fans have begun questioning his quality.
