The Reds were hammered 5-0 by the Villans at Villa Park, and that means they are now out of the domestic competition. Jurgen Klopp has prioritised that tournament – it is one the Anfield outfit has never won before – but that is a decision that has not gone down well with talkSPORT presenter Andy Goldstein. He believes that the 52-year-old has shown “disrespect” to the competition with the team that was fielded.

Some fans were quick to point out that the Club World Cup is far more lucrative as well.
Indeed, there is more cash at stake in the Club World Cup than in the League Cup. Not just that, but it is more prestigious as well, considering it does involve teams from all over the world who have won their respective continent’s club competition to make it to Qatar.
Other fans have brought Manchester United pulling out of the FA Cup in 1999/00 for a similar reason up.
It is no surprise to see Goldstein be lenient with the Red Devils – he is a United fan after all. As one fan said, at least Liverpool did field a team instead of pulling out altogether.
On Saturday, we will find out if the former Borussia Dortmund manager was right to put the Club World Cup first.
