West Brom are closing in on the signing of Fulham midfielder Josh Onomah, according to a deadline day update from journalist Lewis Cox.
The Lowdown: Onomah linked with West Brom move
Steve Bruce has been working hard on bringing in new players this summer, as the Baggies look to see an upturn in fortunes and push for promotion from the Championship.
Onomah is one player who has been strongly linked with a move to the Hawthorns, with the 25-year-old way down the pecking order at Fulham currently.
It now looks as though West Brom have got their man, following a key update.
The Latest: Transfer set to be completed
Taking to Twitter on Thursday evening, Cox claimed that Onomah’s move to the Baggies is nearing completion after undergoing a medical:
“Four hours until deadline & no confirmed #wba additions but suggestions Onomah loan from Fulham close to completion after medical. Still leaves centre-forward as the big one to come – & Bruce said defender could happen. Exits too – Robbo & other (Reach?) – not too be ruled out.”
The Verdict: Shrewd signing by Baggies
This could prove to be an excellent signing by West Brom, considering Onomah has a wealth of Championship experience, making 99 appearances in the competition and helping Fulham earn promotion along the way.
Not only that, but the midfielder also won the Under-20 World Cup with England back in 2017, playing in a team that featured the likes of Phil Foden and Jadon Sancho.
Onomah’s quality in the middle of the park can help take Bruce’s side up a gear ahead of a key run of fixtures – he registered three assists and averaged 1.3 tackles per game in the league last season – as they look to edge towards the playoff places after a difficult start.
