Jurgen Klopp is a man that loves to mould players into superstars rather than buy the finished product for large sums of money.
We’ve seen him work his magic on the likes of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, players that rose to prominence under his watchful eye to become some of the world’s best in their own positions, bagging goals for fun throughout 2018/19.
A similar thing happened with Liverpool’s full-backs as both Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold have become true superstars in their own right, as evident from their unreal tally of assists last year.

And just by taking a quick look at their transfer history, the Reds are not really big spenders – after all, Virgil van Dijk is still their most expensive purchase in the history of the club, followed by Alisson and Naby Keita respectively. But for the modern market, those are not really extraordinary figures.
Not in the age of Neymars and Coutinhos at least.

But Klopp has a knack of scooping a good deal and that much was evident in their recent purchase of Takumi Minamino for a reported £7.25m or the one of Sepp van den Berg for £1.3m, as both represent bargain deals that could turn into superstars in the near future.
And if the latest reports coming from Calciomercato are also true, the Reds are on a hunt for another special youngster, Mathieu Goncalves, the 18-year-old defender plying his trade at Toulouse in Ligue 1.
Despite his young age, the left-back has already tallied 404 minutes for his team and has been their shining light in a season full of disappointment, as they are currently dead last in the Ligue 1 table.
Much harder than you’d think… Can you name Liverpool’s top scorers for each of these 25 seasons?
His talents are already visible and Calciomercato state it could take around £8.5m to scoop the prodigy and bring him to Anfield. But Juventus are also prowling around so Klopp’s men might face some competition from the Bianconeri.
Of course, Liverpool could use someone to potentially take over the torch from Robertson or simply provide him with some backup since there’s literally no one else in the squad who is a natural left-back besides the great Scottish defender.
Goncalves might not be a superstar right now but if history has taught us anything, it’s that Klopp has what it takes to turn him into one sooner rather than later.
And with a price tag of just £8.5m, he would also represent another bargain and potentially a mastermind move by the German manager.
