Southampton are ready to fight Tottenham for Brazil forward Leandro Damiao.
The Daily Mail is reporting that the Premier League pair will fight it out for the 23-year-old’s signature.
Damiao has been a long-term transfer target for Spurs, who have tried to sign him in the last four transfer windows. But each time the clubs have failed to agree terms, and Damiao has stayed put with Internacional.
Now Southampton are preparing an audacious bid to sign the young Brazilian, who is valued at £18million.
Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino is keen to boost his side ahead of the new season, after the club finished in 14th place last campaign. It will be the first summer transfer window at Southampton for Pochettino, and the Argentine is eager to bring in reinforcements before the new season.
Damiao scored six goals for the Brazilian Olympic team last summer, as the nation reached the final of the tournament, only to suffer heartache when they lost 2-1 to Mexico.
The Internacional forward was expected to feature for his nation in the Confederations Cup, but was forced to withdraw from the tournament through injury.
The 23-year-old could however, surprisingly join Southampton this summer, despite rumoured interest from Tottenham Hotspur once more.
Could Southampton tempt Damiao? Should he pick them over Spurs?
